Overview of the Commercial and Economic Division

     The Commercial and Economic Division of the Supreme Court adjudicates civil cases concerning insurance law, over draft and current account law, commercial lease agreement law, partner and corporate law and securities law. Currently, the division comprises of 18 judges, who sit in panels of three to adjudicate cases. The Chief Judge of the Division presides over the panel.

     According to the Civil Procedure Code B.E. 2478 section 247, there is no automatic right of appeal to the Supreme Court from judgement of the Appeals Court in commercial and economic civil cases. A party must file a petition for a writ of certiorari which the Supreme Court will grant only when there are compelling reasons pursuant to the Civil Procedure Code B.E. 2478 section 249 and regulation of the President of the Supreme Court.
